Tiedemann Represents Duckworth In Same-Sex Marriage
Litigation |
|
Steven Tiedemann represents Court Clerk and candidate
for Congress, Hon. Robert P. Duckworth in his attempt to
intervene in the same-sex marriage case pending in the
Baltimore City Circuit Court. Mr. Duckworth, who is
seeking Ben Cardin's 3rd District Seat, opposes same sex
marriage. Mr. Duckworth was excluded from the suit and
not named by the plaintiffs and the ACLU. Mr. Tiedemann,
working with a grant from the Alliance Defense Fund, is
currently working on the appeal of the Court's
intervention decision. Mr. Tiedemann stated in pleadings
that "Plaintiffs have 'pleaded around' more conservative
clerks like Mr. Duckworth. . . . Mr. Duckworth wants to
ensure that his rights are protected and his more
conservative point of view are represented, in this
matter between what currently appear to be
'too-friendly' adversaries." For more info

Pain Reliever Vioxx is recalled |
|
The
FDA recall of pain reliever Vioxx recently made national
headlines for good reason because Vioxx has been
prescribed over 52 million times since FDA approval in
June 1999 and the drug has now been implicated in
increased risks for heart attack and stroke.
Vioxx was approved as a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory
drug for the relief of symptoms of osteoarthritis,
management of acute pain in adults and for treatment of
menstrual symptoms. Vioxx was later approved for the
relief of symptoms of rheumatoid arthritis in adults and
children. If you
believe you or someone you know has sustained a Vioxx-related
personal injury, please contact CB&T for more
information to determine if we can help! For more info

Class Action LawSuit Against Trex
Company, Inc. |
|
If you installed Trex Decking at
your home and are dissatisfied because of checking,
splitting, splintering, rotting and/or decay, you
are not alone! A class action lawsuit was filed
against Trex Company, Inc. and the lawsuit appears
to be on the verge of settlement. On December 10,
2004, a hearing will be held in the Superior Court
in New Jersey to determine if a settlement will be
approved that would allow for replacement of
defective Trex Decking®, including labor costs. If
the settlement is approved, claimants whose warranty
had expired would have only 35 days from court
approved "settlement date" to assert a claim. If you
have Trex Decking and don’t want to be subject to
the proposed Class settlement, you will have to "opt
out" of the lawsuit by November 19, 2004. To
determine if you might be an eligible Class member,
or if you might have a claim or need help making a
claim, contact CB&T for more information! |

State Bid Process and MBE Compliance
Changing |
|
Senate Bill 903 has
changed the MBE program. Other aspects of the MBE
program remain unchanged, and still others will undergo
a period of transition, as the industry adapt themselves
to the new rules. The fundamental mission of Maryland’s
MBE program remains constant: to meet the overall goal
for MBE participation, to set realistic
contract-specific goals for MBE participation, to meet
(or make good faith efforts to meet) contract goals, and
to administer contracts in a manner that promotes the
goals of the Maryland MBE program. The transitional
aspects of the SHA MBE program consist mainly of what
things contractors and MBE subcontractors must now do
before the bid, which, in the past, they have at
times done after the bid. For more information,
contractors, both MBE and non-MBE should contact Steve
Tiedemann at
stiedemann@cooverbarr.com. |
